Pocket Doors
Pocket Doors are not a new invention, having been used in grand houses and commercial properties such as hotels for hundreds of years, in order to create extended use of individual rooms. However, this facility has recently become very popular due to the need for interiors to be more flexible. In addition, with the improved technology in door gearing systems this type of door system is now to a higher specification and more economical making it within reach of the general public.
The term, pocket door, refers mainly to the action of opening the door rather than the door design itself. This facility enables a door to be almost completely concealed within a wall cavity when it is not in use. In the main, standard doors can be used to slide into a wall cavity, allowing complete freedom of movement between spaces without the use of hinges. The pocket doors system is often fitted during the refurbishment of a property or previously planned for at the design stage prior to building. However, if necessary, an additional false wall could be installed parallel with an existing wall and created to allow sufficient space for the door to fit within.
Individual pocket doors are very useful in situations such as bathrooms, dressing rooms, kitchens where space is at a premium or when a slick, modern, open plan appearance is required. Double doors with each separating from the centre and concealed into walls either side are particularly popular for separating living spaces. Door type can be either with solid panels, flush or glazed doors. It is necessary to plan that the walls to which they will be concealed into are of a sufficient width with no major obstructions to interfere with the system.
The pocket doors sets will come with the doors(s), the sliding system, fixings, brackets and cavity wall uprights.
Our Pocket Door sets are design by us and use a recommended gearing system.
